Call for Interest: Faculty Learning Community on Teaching in the Round

First Meeting: Monday, March 31
2 to 3 p.m.
CTL Workspace (MC 2.404)
Recurring dates to be determined

Facilitated by Dr. Karen Huxtable-Jester, CTL Director

Do you want to teach in the round, 400-seat, arena-style classroom in the new Student Union & Student Success Center scheduled to be completed in late 2026? Do you want to learn new strategies for teaching large classes or using active learning in any type of classroom?

Please join the Teaching in the Round Faculty Learning Community, supported by the CTL.

Together, we will identify challenges, opportunities, and new approaches to teaching in this space, including improv techniques, fishbowl strategies, active lecturing and active learning, and classroom management.

The group will meet three times this spring and continue for as long as members wish to remain involved. We will use these early stages to identify faculty needs and interests, develop recommendations for workload policies, and create a plan for moving forward.

Benefits:

  • Networking opportunities with innovative peers.
  • Sharing research on what works in teaching large classes.
  • Developing space-appropriate, evidence-informed practices.
  • Practice teaching sessions.
  • Pilot student feedback surveys.
  • And more!

Open to all UTD faculty only.
