Grab and Go Teaching Tip

Team-Based Learning (TBL) is a high-impact educational practice that is easily translatable to the online environment. TBL enables students to actively engage with course content, each other and their instructors.

The new open-access book “Resilient Pedagogy” outlines four essential principles of TBL:

  • Appropriately formed teams that ensure learner resources are equally distributed among the teams.
  • Learner accountability for the work.
  • Team assignments that promote both learning and team development.
  • Frequent and immediate feedback for learners.

Global Partnerships Available through VE

Take team-based learning to a global level with Virtual Exchange (VE), an innovative pedagogy that allows professors and students to engage with peers at universities around the world. Also known as COIL (collaborative online international learning), VE takes place within two or more courses taught by professors in different countries and might span from a few weeks to an entire semester.

In fall 2021, seven UT Dallas professors engaged in VE projects with partners in Mexico, France, India, Brazil and beyond. Courses included electromagnetic engineering, neuroscience lab methods, experimental animation, money and banking, sociology of the family, and sustainable communities.
