CTL is sponsoring two reading groups this spring. The first, Thriving in Academia: Building a Career at a Teaching-Focused Institution, by Ansburg, Basham and Gurung, is available as an e-book from the McDermott Library.
Participants are welcome, but not required, to read some or all of the book before the online meeting. We will discuss building a career at an R1 institution and the particular challenges and advantages faced by nontenure-system faculty and share recommendations for proactive strategies to shape a rewarding and fulfilling teaching career. Join the book discussion on Teams, 4-5 p.m., Thursday, April 6.
The second is Inclusive Collegiality and Nontenure-Track Faculty: Engaging All Faculty as Colleagues to Promote Healthy Departments and Institutions, by Haviland, et al. (2020). Faculty of all ranks — tenure-system or nontenure-system status — may request a hard copy of the book from the CTL in MC 2.402 (while supplies last) or may borrow a digital copy from the McDermott Library.
Participants will meet for the initial group discussion after reading the book’s introduction. Follow-up discussions will be scheduled in the coming months to accommodate participant availability and interests. Register by Friday, March 31 for the reading group and request your copy of the book.
