Testimonials

This SWG was a great way to share ideas and implement tangible changes to a course that will better help future students taking the course (plus, you can add it to your resumé)!

As a psychology major, I was hesitant to pick the SWG program about bio-concrete infrastructure on other planets due to my lack of suggested prerequisites. But I am beyond grateful I took the chance. It sparked a passion to pursue microbiology and geosciences classes for electives. I loved growing a relationship with a professor outside of a class and sharing a passion for learning. I would recommend this program to everyone because the opportunities you will get are endless.

Getting to work with my peers and Dr. Kristin Atchison in a safe, group-oriented way was an incredible experience. I got to strengthen my skills in public speaking, teamwork and time management. It’s such a rewarding feeling to know that our opinions as students do make a difference to faculty members, and that our voices are being heard and put into action through this program. I would recommend this program to any student looking for a challenging and ultimately extremely rewarding experience!

SWG was a unique opportunity that came just at the right time. As a transfer student in my senior year, I hadn’t had many opportunities before to network or conduct research. Overall, a 10/10 experience.

I was able to come out of my shell and develop confidence in presenting my ideas and collaborating with peers.

Dr. Kristin Atchison was very sweet and welcoming. [She] made me look forward to attending all of the sessions she held. She was very open to any ideas we had to share and made us feel like our insight was valuable. I definitely will participate in another SWG if the opportunity comes up again.

Thankful for this opportunity to connect with faculty and peers in a group setting. UTD can sometimes feel like a big school, but SWG helped me connect with people with the same interests and a passionate professor.

I gained more confidence in sharing my ideas as well as being able to work with a group of women I could relate with and found solace in. It was something to look forward to. I will carry what I learned through future research opportunities.

It was incredibly rewarding to take a project to completion, especially knowing it can be useful in the future. The SWG provided an amazing opportunity to meet other peers and provided a collaborative environment that was greatly conducive to learning. I can’t wait to do another SWG next summer!

Dr. Kelli Palmer was a wonderful mentor during this experience and allowed me to feel I could go out of my comfort zone in regard to research and communication.

I improved my confidence working in a team as well as speaking my mind within a small group.
